Propeller on condition
On-Condition Program: Fixed-Pitch McCauley Propellers
(This content applies only to Dutch-registered aircraft)
Vliegwerk Holland has developed a specialized On-Condition (OC) program for fixed-pitch McCauley propellers. Standard regulations typically require a Time Between Overhaul (TBO) of 2000 flight hours or 6 years. However, from a technical perspective, many propellers remain in excellent condition well beyond the 6-year mark.
Since most aircraft reach the 6-year limit long before they hit 2000 hours, propellers are often overhauled prematurely. This results in unnecessary costs and shortens the propeller’s total lifespan, as a propeller can only be overhauled a limited number of times. By extending the interval, you save costs and preserve the integrity of the propeller. Conversely, propellers are often neglected in daily maintenance such as the buildup of dirt and insects which can lead to avoidable wear. Vliegwerk Holland’s program bridges this gap by combining cost savings with intensified care.
The Program Benefits
By enrolling in our program, the 6-year calendar limit is waived, and the propeller only requires an overhaul upon reaching the 2000-hour limit. Example: If your aircraft flies 200 hours per year, your propeller can now remain in service for 10 years (until the 2000-hour limit) instead of being overhauled every 6 years.
Applicability Who is it for?
All PH-registered aircraft equipped with a McCauley fixed-pitch propeller. The Requirements: While the 6-year limit is removed, the 2000-hour limit remains. The following maintenance requirements apply:
Entry Inspection: When the propeller reaches its original 6-year overhaul date, the OC program commences. The propeller is removed, cleaned, and undergoes a thorough, one-time visual inspection. Routine
Checks: Following the initial inspection, a visual inspection is required every 50 flight hours.
Final Limit: Once the propeller reaches 2000 flight hours, a full overhaul is mandatory.
Costs and Validity: The program is valid for one specific propeller. The program requires a one-time purchase per aircraft-propeller combination. It remains valid indefinitely, even after the propeller has eventually been overhauled.
